You know.... that guy that started a flame-update thread immediately after the update was posted, then (apparently) stayed online 24 hours to counter every response made, well.... dude, get a summer job or something, get some perspective.
This game cost $50 for nine months play. That's 18 cents a day! So, what, you're not getting your 18 cent's worth?
Careful, considered, constructive criticism is one thing, fine. Slamming a company that has been so pro-active and so attentive to players is another. Learn some patience. Learn some respect. Sheesh, learn some basic social skills.
And thanks to Anet. Here's hoping they're not discourage by the naysayers and that they realize how many truly grateful fans there are out there.
Please ANet. Separate PvP and PvE. There is no need for the two to ever meet; you can have RP PvP arenas and an RP HoH ladder and all that for those that enjoy it, but give the PvPers their fair competition, their own ladder and arenas. If RPers want to compete in the UAS environment, fine! Let them! Simply make an "export to PvP" button which creates a PvP only duplicate of their character - but the need for a single seamless whole is artificial - the two communities want very different things, and there is nothing that wouldn't be solved by dividing them - the RP/PvP crowd and the "don't UAS" crowd have the RP PvP to play in, the PvP UAS crowd have the PvP only area, and with exporting you can play both.
This will not help ... they are in fact intertwined because this is an evolutionary game. If you want straight pvp go to SG, straight PVE go EQ or WoW ... GW takes gaming to a whole other level ... but utilizing key story line items like the favour of the gods .... th Hall of Heroes ... Ascention ... this game takes it to a new level. If you cannot handle the full capabilities of the game ... I hear barbie is coming out with a new corvette.
Now .. back to the purpose of this thread ... the improvements were outstanding ... sure ... there is still a long way to go ... but it is definately a good step in the right direction. Just as implementing the rune trader was ... this faction system is definately worth a compliment. Remember moving to where people will want to be will only make them demand higher greater things. For some reason or another poeple are never content. The answer to that is gradual improvement. Small steps. Careful planning. And timing and execution. This weekly update is fantastic. I am happy to see it.
This is a positive update, I will say one thing that everyone needs to take into account. If you liked guildwars for more than 1 week of gaming, the 40 bucks is worth more video game value than the majority of all titles on your shelf. No monthly fee a huge world, weekly updates, the most dynamic Meta game PvP Ever. Seriously get back to the game, if its not fun quit. If it is, lose sleep. People need to tone down the bitching, and tone up the fun. And if GW isn't fun don't play <--- FIRST RULE!
If you cannot handle the full capabilities of the game ... I hear barbie is coming out with a new corvette.
I've been polite and rational, but you somehow come across as an arrogant ass.
I know the "plot" has the whole hall of heroes thing, but it's a tacked on explanation for PvP, as are the arenas. It even feels like a flimsy plot. Besides, I'm not saying to get rid of PvP for the RP crowd; keep it. Just run a separate PvP section with a separate ladder. Some of us followed this game for years, we like the sound of "skill, not hours spent", we are fantasy and RPG lovers who also love real PvP, PvP that is about skill. I enjoy head to head confrontation in RTS, I enjoy head to head play in FPS as well as team based play, I enjoy chess, I enjoy fencing. These are all about competitive fun - if ANet wants to make a CORPG as they call it it's a great stride, but hanging onto the idea that you should earn gear to compete with is simply clinging to the genre stereotype. Making PvP true PvP would be the big step, the plung into new territory - it would make a real CORPG, instead of a sort-of MMORPG with PvP components.
rofl why do people seem to think this game is only pvp and completely forget it's both pve and pvp?
And why the hell are people complaining about the new system? 1000 to unlock a skill pfft. I done a couple of competition arena matches and racked up a few hundred BF. I think they're just complaining cause it looks too much. Maybe they should actually try it out, 1000 is really not that much when you get into things.
Also, the casual gamers complaining about not being able to compete? Well yeah, the hardcore ones would have a huge advantage over them regardless of if they have everything unlocked or not. Time invested into practice improves skill. So yes, it will show that your victory is proved by hours played on improving skill. If you got everything unlocked, you'll just start complaining about things being too hard. Just face it, the casual gamer can not be competetive, they're entire opposite.
This is a great update, I thought it would make people happy that they don't have to do PvE to unlock stuff, but it doesn't seem like enough. It never is. GTFO and go back to counterstrike or some shit. Stop spamming up the community with your emo bullshit.
I've been polite and rational, but you somehow come across as an arrogant ass.
My appologies for pointing out the obvious, you need not appologize, I'd rather admit the truth then hide it ...

I will use more etiquette so maybe my message will get through this time ... this game is a full game when using both pve and pvp ... this isn't one or the other but many people are divided because they prefer one or the other. My point is that GW is not in that category ... its not a half life 2 type style ... the game is revolutionary meaning its setting the standards for a new era in gaming. I'm not saying you have to like it ... obviously with every game comes a barrage of opinionative people who believe they know what Anet should do. This is the case with every game not just gw. It's in the person where the problem lies because they focus so heavily on what is wrong they don't focus on how great the game actually is. Developing a game that is intertwined like this is amazing ... I am floored by the creativity that has gone into developing such a masterpiece. Of course with extremely careful planning for its growth ... but your asking them to (scratch there plans of developing a revolutionary game)? Seems a little far fetched. This game is developed for the overall fun ... adjoinging the 2 creating a new genre kinda. When you look at it, there are NO games like this ... you stated in another post DoD is close ... I can't comment because I do not own it. However this game has an amazing balance in it.

I really like the new system. I've yet to really think about the numbers, but I collected about 200 faction in an hour or so of random pvp arena, so I think that's ok. Unlocking one thing in one or two nights of serious playing seems about right to me, as something to give playing PvP some flavour and meaning.
I think the UAS'ers wont be happy until they get UAS, or some effective substitute - eg. They want enough faction to unlock everything after a week or two of normal pvping.
I only hope that ANet keeps its perspective... I'd hate for them to see all this whining and go "Alright! That's it! Whatever we do they'll never be happy! NO MORE UPDATES FOR YOU!"
Edit: The notion that "you gotta have most of the stuff unlocked to be competitive" smacks of the same attitude in random PUGs of "Get 3 monks or I'll leave." The attitude that, unless you have everything in place beforehand, ITS NOT EVEN WORTH PLAYING. Whereas I'm usually, "Who cares if we're at a disadvantage? I'd rather play right now and have some fun rather than wait and wait until everything is just right." And now, whilst I'm playing and having fun, I can be unlocking stuff at some slow rate also. Bonus.

I wish they had made it so that you could unlock the 15k and fissure armor and the uber weapons (storm bow chaos axe etc.) in PvP. Besides that I like it. Now I think I will go play some PvP
I'm very happy about them making pets "as if infused." There was some good done for PvE there.
<--steals a piece of pie
They still only got like 60AL though, right?
Yeah my W/R won't be switching back to BM anytime soon...
Granted, it is worlds better for them to be infused, but as far as I'm concerned that's a bug fix and not a gameplay balance issue. Yeah I know they don't call it that. But how is my warthog Oink knock-off pet gonna stand his own at the front with 60AL? I mean monks in my party have better armor than that -_-
Anyway, like above poster(s), it'd be great if they unveil more "PvP weapon" options. I'm kinda getting tired using the same PvP Axe all the time. I certiainly wouldn't mind using my 2000 faction points to "unlock" a Chaos axe w/ custom colour to be used in PvP.

Pets are not meant to be a replacement for a party member, they give rangers a slight advantage, which utilised properly can be uber. Same with Necro's and their minions, the reason why they have a degen time is because then you could just raise countless minions and have them all standing there waiting to slaughter anything in their way (not to say you can't do this if you play it right). But giving a pet equal armour level to players and stuff means you have an extra party member on the team which unbalances things.

I agree, the update is awesome, but as always it'd be nice to see some more diversity in weapons all around. So here's to hoping that ArenaNet get working on that whenever (if they already aren't).
